Managing Director

Christopher T. Ball

Chris is responsible for developing and executing sell-side mergers and acquisitions at CriticalPoint Partners. He brings over 25 years of investment banking, business management, and product development experience to assist entrepreneurs with maximizing the value of their companies.

Prior to joining CriticalPoint, Chris was a director with Brockett Tamny & Co., Inc., a boutique investment bank that focuses on sell-side mergers and acquisitions and raising capital for companies across a wide variety of industries. Before joining Brockett Tamny & Co., he successfully executed numerous transactions with Janas Associates, also a boutique investment bank, for clients that included medical device manufacturers, service providers, petroleum distributors, and technology companies. Prior to Janas, he was the founder of Strategic Initiatives, Inc., a financial and general management consulting firm, where, among other things, he conducted economic studies and advised clients on acquisition strategies. Chris was previously the Director, Business Planning and Product Development for International Rectifier, the market leader for power semiconductors. Chris began his career with TRW Inc. where he held various management roles and successfully launched several complex automotive components.

He earned his Master’s in Industrial Administration (MBA) degree from Purdue University’s Krannert Graduate School of Management and his Bachelor of Sciences degree in Industrial Engineering from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. He is a Registered Representative of BA Securities, LLC and holds FINRA Series 79 & 63 licenses.

Managing Director

Diane Cabo

Diane is responsible for originating and executing merger and acquisition transactions. She has over ten years of investment banking experience advising owners of middle-market companies on mergers and acquisitions, private placements and public offerings across a wide variety of industries.

Prior to joining CriticalPoint, Diane was with Greif & Co. where she worked on sell-side mergers and acquisitions in a variety of practice areas including industrial, manufacturing/ distribution and consumer products. Before joining Greif & Co., she successfully executed numerous transactions at WestPark Capital, focused on private placements of equity capital and public transactions for lower middle-market companies in the U.S. and internationally. Prior to WestPark, Diane operated her own business plan writing and business development consulting company for entrepreneurial clients seeking venture capital funding. Earlier in her career, she was a Director of Operations for a Boston-based hedge fund, whereby she focused on equity research, trading and operations.

Diane graduated with her B.S. in finance and marketing from Boston College and an MBA from Pepperdine University’s Graziadio School of Business and Management. She is a Registered Representative of BA Securities, LLC and holds FINRA Series 7, 79 & 63 licenses.

Associate

Austin Echtenkamp

Austin is an Associate and his primary responsibilities at CriticalPoint include deal origination and qualification. Prior to joining CriticalPoint in June of 2018, Austin worked as an Analyst for UBS in Beverly Hills. Austin received his Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration from the University of Southern California.

Luke Ewing

Luke is responsible for originating and executing merger and acquisition transactions at CriticalPoint Partners. He brings over 10 years of investment banking, operational and program management experience covering a range of diverse industries.

Prior to joining CriticalPoint, Luke was with Goldman Sachs for three years where he worked in the West Region Advisory group of the Investment Banking Division. He advised on buy-side / sell-side engagements, recapitalizations and public offerings for corporate clients across a variety of industry verticals to include consumer / retail, healthcare, media, technology and real estate. In his time with the firm, Luke successfully supported and executed multiple mergers and acquisitions with transaction values totaling more than $3.2 billion.

Prior to Goldman, Luke served on active duty for over seven years in the United States Air Force. While in the Air Force, he worked as an Acquisition Officer developing and acquiring next-generation space and missile technologies for the Pentagon. Luke also served as an Aircraft Maintenance Officer leading over 300 individuals in maintenance operations for multi-million dollar surveillance and intelligence aircraft. He deployed to South America supporting the southern hemisphere’s drug and narcotic interdiction program.

Luke received his Bachelor of Science in Management from the United States Air Force Academy and Master of Science in Entrepreneurship and Emerging Enterprise from Oklahoma State University. He is a Registered Representative of BA Securities, LLC and holds FINRA series 79 license.

Office Manager

Chinyarai Hamilton

Chinyarai Hamilton co-manages the administrative and operational functions of the CriticalPoint Partners office. Her background is in Retail Management and Retail Marketing. She holds a B.A. in Business Administration (Marketing) from Clark Atlanta University, and an MBA from Syracuse University’s Whitman School of Management in Marketing Research and Entrepreneurship & Emerging Enterprises (EEE).

Executive Vice President

Brad Holtmeier

Brad Holtmeier joined CriticalPoint Partners in early 2013 after spending 10 years in various finance roles including, most recently, over eight years in the Mergers and Acquisitions Group at Platinum Equity. While at Platinum, Brad led complex buy-side, sell-side and financing transactions in the U.S. and in Europe. In addition, Brad held board positions for several companies in both the U.S. and Europe. Prior to joining Platinum Equity in 2005, Brad worked as a Senior Credit Officer for the specialty finance company Jules and Associates where he structured and executed over $100 million of commercial loans to middle market companies. Earlier in his career, Brad was an Acquisitions Officer for over five years in the United States Air Force. In his final assignment, he helped procure multi-billion dollar Global Positioning System satellite technology.

As an Executive Vice President of CriticalPoint Partners, Brad’s primary goal is to help our clients build shareholder value on a highly accelerated timeframe with comprehensive M&A and advisory support. Brad received his Bachelor’s Degree in Management from the United States Air Force Academy and Master’s in Business Administration with a concentration in Finance from the University of Southern California. He is a Registered Representative of BA Securities, LLC and holds FINRA series 7 and 63 licenses.

CFO/Controller

Laurie Hunter

Laurie is the CFO/Controller for CriticalPoint Partners. She is a CPA and started her career with Deloitte. Prior to joining CriticalPoint, Laurie managed the business affairs and the family office for a world-renowned professional athlete for over 20 years.

Laurie holds a Master’s Degree in Business Administration from the UCLA Anderson School, a Master’s Degree in Business Taxation from the University of Southern California and a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting from the University of Arizona.

Laurie volunteers extensively and is the current CFO of Town and Gown of USC, the University’s largest philanthropic organization

Managing Director

Ryan McDowell

Ryan is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the firm’s strategic growth initiatives as Managing Director of Business Development.

Prior to joining CriticalPoint, Ryan spent 11 years in the Private Banking and Investment Group at Merrill Lynch, where he and his team managed over $16bln for ultra-high net worth families and institutions. Having assisted numerous clients through successful exits of their businesses, he developed a unique understanding of the needs of business owners and their families – including wealth transfer and intergenerational dynamics – and possesses a deep knowledge of capital markets. Ryan is a graduate of Amherst College where he double majored in Political Science and Sociology. He holds the Chartered Financial Analyst Designation and is a member of the CFA Society of Los Angeles. As a Registered Representative of BA Securities, LLC, he holds the FINRA Series 7 and 66 licenses.

Senior Associate

Dirk Onink

Dirk Onink is responsible for financial sponsor coverage across North America. He brings over 7 years of commercial finance and seed funding experience covering a diverse range of industries.

Prior to joining CriticalPoint, Dirk was with TEQlease Capital for 6 years where he managed the middle market commercial finance group and structured transactions. Prior to TEQlease Capital, he worked for Maverick Angels, a boutique angel investing firm focused on domestic and international startup companies in the technology and biosciences arenas.

Dirk received his Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration and International Business from California Lutheran University and is currently pursuing a Master’s in Business Administration from Pepperdine Graziadio Business School.

Justin Shin

Justin is responsible for overseeing deal origination efforts for CriticalPoint Partners. Before joining CriticalPoint in April 2013, Justin was most recently with Pegasus Capital Group, a private buyout firm where he was responsible for transaction origination and analysis. Prior to joining Pegasus, he worked for OCTANe advising start-ups and entrepreneurs in the information technology and biomedical industries on business strategy and identifying funding. Justin received his Bachelor’s Degree in Biochemistry from University of California, Santa Barbara and Master’s in Business Management from Keck Graduate Institute. He is a Registered Representative of BA Securities, LLC and holds FINRA Series 79 & 63 licenses.

Robyn Suhling

Robyn is responsible for spearheading and continuously managing all ongoing administrative and operational functions of the CriticalPoint Partners office. Previously, she worked for over four years at the McDonalds Corporation in the Human Resources Department where she facilitated the needs of the company and its personnel. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Communication.

Amy Tzagournis

Amy is responsible for building and managing long-term relationships with clients looking to utilize CriticalPoint’s M&A and value creation advisory services. Her experience warrants opportunities to work with clients both on the buy-side and sell-side while bringing to the table a wide range of industry expertise. In particular, Amy enjoys promoting investment strategies in health and wellness and active lifestyle companies as a result of her background as an athlete and fitness professional.

Amy received her Bachelor’s Degree from Ohio State University and her MBA from Pepperdine Graziadio School of Business and Management. She is a Registered Representative of BA Securities, LLC and holds FINRA series 79 and 63 licenses.

Business Development

Alex Williams

Alex is responsible for deal origination, qualification, and execution on buy-side advisory engagements for CriticalPoint Partners. Prior to joining CriticalPoint in 2019, Alex held various positions at Boustead Securities and Amerigo Capital. Additionally, Alex has more than 8 years of international and domestic experience in business development, finance, and strategy across a wide range of industries.

Alex received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of California, Santa Barbara and his MBA with a concentration in Finance and Strategy from the University of California, Irvine – Merage School of Business.

Founder & CEO

Matt Young

Matt Young founded CriticalPoint Partners in 2012 after spending over 15 years in various executive leadership roles including, most recently, his position as a Principal at Platinum Equity. While a Principal at Platinum Equity, Matt executed dozens of transactions across a wide variety of industries and held board positions with numerous portfolio companies. During his tenure, Matt also supported Platinum’s global expansion initiatives by opening a satellite office in Paris where he spent three years.

Prior to joining Platinum Equity in 2001, he worked in the Technology Investment Banking Group at Bear Stearns & Co. and, previously, acted as a Contracting Officer for the United States Air Force where he negotiated the acquisition of multi-billion dollar military satellites, including the Milstar satellite system from Lockheed Martin.

Over the course of his career, Matt recognized a need within lower-middle market companies for corporate development support, both at the advisory and transactional levels. Matt founded CriticalPoint Partners with the goal of creating lasting partnerships with firms in need of investment assistance including deal sourcing, buy-side support, sell-side support, and advisory or board participation in order to increase profitability.

Matt is currently serving on the advisory board of Simmons Foods and Point7West. He received his Bachelor’s Degree in Management from the United States Air Force Academy and Master’s in Business Administration with a concentration in Finance from the University of Southern California.
